Panthers seek to join 1945 Maple Leafs in historic comeback
The Edmonton Oilers have forced a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final, defeating the Florida Panthers 5-1 in Game 6 on Sunday night. The Oilers trailed 3-0 in the series but fought back to win three consecutive games and force a deciding Game 7 in Edmonton.
The Panthers will now try to become the first team since the 1945 Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup after blowing a 3-0 series lead. The Maple Leafs lost the first three games of the Final to the Detroit Red Wings but rallied to win the next four games and claim the championship.
The Oilers will be looking to avoid becoming the first team to lose the Stanley Cup Final after leading 3-0 since the 2014 Los Angeles Kings.
