YouTube Videos Pausing, Freezing, or Stopping After a Few Seconds? Here's How to Unfreeze Your Videos and Get YouTube Working Again

Troubleshooting YouTube Freezing and Pausing Issues

YouTube is a popular platform for watching videos, but it can be frustrating when videos keep pausing, freezing, or stopping after a few seconds. If you're experiencing this problem, here are some tips on how to get YouTube working again.

Restart Your Browser and Reload YouTube

Sometimes YouTube freezes because there is a temporary issue with the browser or the YouTube web player. You can try reloading the webpage to see if it solves the problem.

Clear Cookies and History

Clearing the cookies and history of your browser can help to resolve freezing issues on YouTube. To do this in Google Chrome:

  1. Open the Google Chrome browser from your PC.
  2. Click on the three horizontal dots at the top right part of the browser.
  3. Select "Settings."
  4. Click on "Privacy and security."
  5. Click on "Clear browsing data."
  6. Select the time range you want to clear the data for.
  7. Select the checkboxes for "Browser history," "Cookies and other site data," and "Cached images and files."
  8. Click on the "Clear data" button.

Reboot Your Router

As mentioned earlier, restarting your router can be effective if YouTube keeps freezing. To reboot your router:

  1. Unplug your router for 30 seconds.
  2. Plug your router back in.

Disable Hardware Acceleration

YouTube crashing to a blue screen is usually a sign of compatibility issues between your web browser and your graphics card. One solution is to disable hardware acceleration for your videos.

Here's how to disable hardware acceleration in major browsers:

  1. Google Chrome: Open the Chrome settings. Click on "Advanced" and then uncheck the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option.
  2. Firefox: Open the Firefox Options menu. Go to the "General" tab and scroll down to the "Performance" section. Uncheck the "Use recommended performance settings" option.
  3. Internet Explorer: Open the Internet Explorer settings. Go to the "Advanced" tab and then click on the "Reset" button. Select the "Delete personal settings" checkbox and click on the "Reset" button again.

Apply a Patch for Microsoft Edge

If you're using Microsoft Edge to watch YouTube videos, you might experience freezing or crashing. Microsoft has released a patch to fix this issue. To apply the patch:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Go to the Microsoft Edge settings.
  3. Click on the "About Microsoft Edge" section.
  4. Check for updates and install any available patches.
